Weight Room Lesson

Rationale/Reflection

This lesson represents Standard Five, Classroom Motivation and Management Skills. Under this standard, the "teacher uses an understanding of individual an group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation. In this lesson, the students entered the weight room and were seated for instruction. The instruction time was brief yet complete so that the students fully understood how to properly use the equipment. When using weight equipment, the fear of the unknown can be what holds one back most. Once I checked for understanding, the students were free to get hands on experience with each piece of equipment with the assistance of a partner. The lesson was organized in a way so there was minimal time used to transition from one thing to another so students were active and on task the entire time. Students were really motivated by the fact that they had proper understanding of how to use the equipment and what the equipment could do for them. The lesson flowed well and created a minimal distraction area for them to work.
