Collecting Student Feedback

Rationale/Reflection

This artifact gives an overview of how I collect information and feedback from my students. This overview is a good example of the sixth standard based on Comuunication Skills. I have given my students a very open line of communication and welcome their feedback. I believe that if I want to effectively reach them, I need to know and understand their needs and desires. Through effective communication explained in this artifact, I have been able to get some good insight from my students showing me where and what I need to alter in my lessons to be a more effective educator. Even just a small alteration can mean an increase in impact. I really appreciate the honesty and good feedback my students have written.

With my goal set to make the learning in my classroom relate to my students, I devised a plan to build a more meaningful learning environment. My stregy focuses on learning the students in my class. I want to learn what Physical Education means to my students and what importance, if any, it has to them personally. I also want to learn the activities they have knowledge of, the activities they enjoy, and the activities they don't know much about. Lastly, I want to learn the activities and aspects of Physical education they do not like and why they do not like them.

I have chosen a few different methods for effectively collecting this information from my students. The first method is anonymous in that students will have the opportunity to respond on a 3x5 card and drop it in a response box. I will then take cards from the box, read them to the class, and allow time for some discussion. The next method involves breaking the students into groups of 2 or 3 and giving them time to discuss and share responses with one another. Each group will them report a summary of their discussions to the entire class. This will give students a chance to hear many different points of view, and will lead into discussion on the topic of Physical Education, and what it means to the students.

Upon learning the needs, interest, and desires of my students, I will be able to better assist them in creating goals for themselves and the class as a whole while building their self motivation as they learn. These goals will guide our class, and I will alter my lessons as to focus on these goals, offering a more meaningful learning experience for my students. Activities will be introduced with an explanation of how they can be used in their lives personally. The benefits of using the activity will be presented along with ideas for altering it to fit their individual needs and interests. By describing how these activities can benefit each student personally, the students can relate and enjoy a more meaningful learning experience.
