Grading Policy
Grading Policy
Rationale/Reflection
This overview of my grading policy represents the use of Standard Eight: Assessment of Student Learning, in my classes. This has been a positive and effective form of overall assessment in my Physical Education classes. I believe it is so important that I use assessment to assess my student learning and the effectiveness of my teaching. I present this overview to my students at the begining of the year and leave it posted throughout the entire year. Students know and understand right from the start what is expected of them throughout the year. I also present this overview to the parents of my students. There is then no question how each student earns a grade. I remind students of their expectations throughout the year as they are assessed on their interaction, knowledge and physical development in Physical Education.
In my physical education classes, students will receive a grade based on their class participation, effort level and attitude. Students will be observed during class and will earn 1 point for a good attitude, 1 point for good participation, and 1 point for being prepared each day they are in class. At different points throughout the year, the daily points will be based on outcome products for effort (i.e. we will spend a day in the computer lab computing each student’s BMI, at the end of that class, students who have not completed this task will not receive the participation or preparation points but will receive attendance point. )These daily points will make up 75% of each student’s grade while the other 25% will come from written tests that assess students on their knowledge of the activities we have done in class. The standard for student’s grades are based solely on what they themselves put into the class, if a student is changed into appropriate attire, has a positive attitude and is in class participating, they will earn full credit every day. The written exams are never given without a review class and review sheet students can use to study from. If the review sheet is studied, students will not have a problem with tests.
